Tbilisi is the capital of Georgia and it is situated in the gorge on the river Mtkvari, which divides the city into two equal parts. Tbilisi was founded in the second half of the V century and it got its name because of sulfur waters. Ancient Tbilisi revives the history of the Georgian people right before our eyes. A lot of cultural monuments are kept here: sulfur waters, Narikala Stronghold, Metekhi, Sioni and Anchiskhati Churches. On the steep bank of the Mtkvari ancient houses with wooden balconies can be observed. Metekhi Church (XIII century), which looks at the ancient Tbilisi from the right bank, were is set up the monument of the founder of Tbilisi Vakhtang Gorgasali.
